On Wednesday 14th October 2015 there was a hugely successful European event in the small hall of Highlees school.

A special guest, Ed Murphy from the Local Government, came to look at what was going on with our celebration of everything European.

We are a school with many different languages and many different people from other countries.

There were tons of activities going on, led by children of our school, who are proud of the countries they come from and were really pleased to share the food, flags and languages from their home countries.

Catherine (Year 5 Flamingoes) had great fun leading other children to paint shamrocks in celebration of Irish tradition. Whereas our Polish friends taught people songs and our Portuguese group, taught people how to speak certain words.

The whole event was planned by the children and supported by adults in our school and everyone (all 100 of them ) had great fun! We are lucky to have such a vibrant community and children and families who will come together to support European Democracy.

Children were happy to share their joy and thank Ed Murphy for coming to the event.

Mr Murphy stated that, “ It was lovely to see so many children enjoying all the activities.”

Lee (Year 3 Tigers) added that he was really proud to share his country .

We were pleased to be asked to cover this successful event and look forward to bringing you news of all the other exciting things that happen in our brilliant school.
