Curriculum

Statement of Intent

At Eyrescroft Primary School we are continuing to develop a broad and balanced curriculum content meeting the emotional and educational needs of each individual child.

The EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum provide the framework for determining the main learning expectations and ensuring the progressive acquisition of knowledge and skills, all within a well considered and planned process.

A significant proportion of children starting school in EYFS lack the wide vocabulary development and the spoken articulation and understanding to enable the secure development of early oracy, english and maths. Many lack experience and exposure to the English language. This is not an indicator of learning potential but merely a barrier to overcome. The focus on speaking, listening, early reading, writing and maths is paramount in allowing effective access to the broader curriculum as these skills develop.

The curriculum across the whole school is led by quality texts where the development of reading/speaking/listening plays a major role. Cornerstones is used as a framework for planned teaching and learning which is evaluated and adapted regularly to ensure clear progress and coverage of key knowledge and skills.

At Eyrescroft the curriculum design enables children to engage in a range of learning opportunities building on prior knowledge and skills and creating meaningful links with real life experiences. Our aim is to develop children who are happy, confident, resilient and successful today and in the future.

How we keep parents/carers informed:

As well as being able to find key information relating to our curriculum on our website, we also produce half termly curriculum information sheets for each year group which are shared on our website. Our curriculum information sheets provide key information about the topics including the key texts.

Please see the tabs on the left hand side to view each year groups curriculum information sheets.
